What would be the 'average' current draw on a ZX24 of any flavor. I am attempting to build a standard ZX platform for my development stuff and would like to properly size the power regulator. My projects normally use a gel-cel 12V battery as the primary source of power and then I regulate it with an on-board regulator. This regulator must supply at least sufficient power to drive the ZX24 'comfortably'. Also, I would like to keep as low profile as possible for the circuit board.

Any enlightenment will be appreciated.

Vic

There are several variables that make it difficult to quantify. For example, the ZX devices based on the mega644P and 1284P draw less current than those based on the mega32 and mega644 under the same conditions. Moreover, the current draw depends on whether you're using the on-board regulator or are supplying a regulated voltage yourself.

You can look up the datasheets for the regulator (NJM#78L05UA), serial EEPROM (AT25256A), inverter chip (74LVC3G04DCTR) and the particular AVR used to get a composite figure. Since they all use the same components (except for the AVR chip) you could also measure the current draw of a particular 24-pin ZX device and then compute deltas for each model.
