Hi!
I know this isn't a forum for electronics but I realize that many off you are good in this area and I appreciate an opinion if my idea is realistic or better if there is another solution
I struggle with an indicator system for my pool system. I'm working on a panel with ON-OFF-ON switches and RGB LED's (common cathode)indicating that system is running in AUTO mode (blue LED) and when overriden manually the green LED light is on. In off state the red LED is on.At the same time switche's are read by zx1281 taken appropriate action I've searched for a number of solutions for this 'simple' task but it doesn't seem to that simple as I thougt! The idea is that status from switches are read by two PCF8574 setting right LED (blue or green) and if a switch is off red LED is on by a third PCF8574
Any help appreciated
Regards Hucke

How many switches do you have on this panel?
Do the switches directly operate any devices, or do you only want to read them from the zx1281, then have the zx1281 control whatever device as necessary?

I can think of several options, but I am not sure exactly what you want to do...
A simple block diagram would help, then we could suggest some ways to accomplish your task.

Sorry, I did not see there was a schematic attached. The schematic shows push button switches, rather than on-off-on types, so I still am not sure what you want to accomplish.

Hi and thank's for reply
I have eight switches (on-off-on) and the logic for settings relay's is done by zx1281 so I just want the switches and LED's to be read/set according to switch/zx1281 status. Have you looked at he schematic's I've attached? Is this ok or do you have another approach? Ps it's not push buttons that I have,it's either on auto in one position or off in middle position and manual in the other position

I have attached a partial schematic showing two methods. I only showed 1 of the 8 switches for clarity. The circuit on the right uses less PCF8574 chips because the switch controls the Red and Green LED's directly.

The circuit on the left uses more chips, but has more control over the LED's e.g. you can make them blink under software control. On the right circuit you can blink the blue LED though.

These ideas are fairly straight forward. There are some tricks you might be able to do to reduce the chip count, but the software would get more complicated. Unless you are planning to make a lot of these, simple is better than playing tricks to save a few IC's.

If you have any questions, just ask...
