[What is ConnectOne's I-Connector? (Lite version with special "send only email" firmware)] ConnectOne's I-Connector is a small dongle with a 9 pin RS232 male connector for modem connection and a 9 pin female for host ZX-xx or "Super Com Z" for computer controlled internet PPP connectivity. Inside this dongle there is a iChip which takes the burden or critical CPU overhead/timing away the from host - ZX-xx. The dongle has a flash (non-volatile) setup pages which uses your ISP setup information to connect to the internet. This has to be programmed in the dongle via application iChip config. utility on the PC, a serial RS232 PC comport 1 and a cable connecting the PC to the device end along with a +5VDC regulated power supply to power the I-Connector. Once this information is programmed into this iChip and by using the built in dumb terminal program, this dongle can be thoroughly tested/simulated BEFORE attaching the I-Connector to the "host" e.g. "Super Com Z". The host just sends a few strings via serial RS232 to the dongle to dial, to connect, to send email/SMS text to the recipient and then exits and hangs-up. Note: NO PC REQUIRED - all you need is one ZX-xx serial port, the I-connector and 5vdc power and an analog modem for full standalone operation. This driver will send an email text message(s) to cell phones and email recipients.

Cost: I-Connector ("Lite version") from ConnectOne.com
PN# iC100-FM-I-1
(Special order Email "send only" firmware version only!)~ $45.00. + shipping? Go to ConnectOne.com for further information.
Note: The older I-Connector is too expensive for home use. ~ $90-$100.

You also need an analog modem.
Analog modem Hayes AT compatible (try to obtain one with troubleshooting lights Pwr,OH,Tx & Rec) - Try eBay ~ $30.00.
'Note: I used a miniature Bluetooth Zoom modem (model #4300) that also has a RS232 port on it (switchable). ~ $59.00.
Note: You can also use this modem to de-code for Caller-ID.
Note: If you use my modem make sure to flip the selector switch from Bluetooth to RS232!

I wonder what ConectOne's iWiFi costs, as compared to Lantronix's WiPort module (I use it) or the end-item version called WiBox, or the Moxa Corp. equivalent, or Digi's equivalent?

ConnectOne's website refers me to Arrow Electronics as the US distributor but there's no iWiFi at Arrow's website that I could find.

I believe Arrow has a vendor section which includes ConnectOne.
If not, just call them ... if you got the money they got the time.
As for the iWiFI, I am clueless, I only work on low cost, NON PC
embedded equipment.

The I-Connector from ConnectOne is completely standalone (No PC required) It has SMTP authentication which the other competing devices like Parallax's PINK and Lantronix's Xport do have have. Without authentication you will not be able to send email using a DSL line with your ISP.

THat is a cool looking sevice you have there!

As for SMTP authentication (a subject about which I have no real knowledge), since spammers spoof their authentication (I think), could you not spoof your own authentication, but use a VALID one instead of a fake spammer one?

What specifically does it take to create an authentication? It would seem not to be too much since spammers seem to fake something about it all the time....

In the old days, with dial-up, the ISP required a password and a username each being "unique" to their system for every user along with the users telephone billing number. Without them you could not connect. Having someone else's password, username account information it could be possible but I believe there are other safeguards built in prevent this user/account thief. I don't have any ISP's "top secret" information on how they would prevent this but in the end a person doing this will get caught. Some ISPs even limit the number of emails that a PPP connection can make. On the hardware side - the I-connector only allows 4 fixed email addresses.
