Project - "Multi-Z CPU"
by ZBasicAndy and neighbor

The included zip file is for the "Multi-Z CPU" BackPlane.

The Multi-Z Backplane design has the following features:
1. 1 +5 VDC red LED power supply indicator.
2. 1 common +5 VDC and ground buss for all three Multi-Z CPU Connectors and external I/O.
(There is a terminal block for the input power connection)
3. 5 VDC reverse polarity protection diode. (Proper power supply fusing is required - 3Amp Max.)
4. Common/generic low cost I/O (4 pin CD Rom - polarized) and Buss (25 Pin RS232) connectors.
5. 4 470 uf. filter caps for +5 VDC power and noise reduction.
6. Rear mount thumb jackscrews for securing the Multi-Z CPU cards - no tools required.
7. 36 4 pin individual I/O connectors to 3 Multi-Z CPUs. (Total I/O count = 69)
(I/O pins except for RS232 I/O - Pin 1 TTL, Pin 2 TTL, Pin 3 GND and Pin 4 +5 VDC)

This I/O can be easily connected to Comfiletech's very low cost "Cell I/O" for proper
ZX-40x I/O isolation and protection.
Modules available from www.Comfiletech.com are as follows:
Relay Output I/O Cell, NPN TR Output I/O Cell, SSR Output I/O Cell, LED Output I/O Cell,
Tac Switch Input I/O Cell, Volume Input I/O Cell, Toggle Switch Input I/O Cell,
DC 24 VDC Input I/O Cell and dual ADIN Input I/O Cell.
You can use a Radio Shack perf board to mount and wire these low cost I/O Cell modules
to the backplane.

Note: I/O connections to other vendors I/O boards, sensors and devices can also be easily interfaced using the Multi-Z backplane.

Since there are four pins per I/O connector, connecting to other I/O is a snap e.g. SPI, I2C,
1W, TTL Serial/RS232, and SD interface.

Please read all docs and view all files for this "Multi-Z project".
The following FREE "Multi-Z CPU" and "Multi-Z BackPlane" schematics and PCB Design can be viewed
by downloading ExpressPCB from ExpressPCB.com. By importing the PCB design you can order 3
"mini-boards" via internet for $59.00 including shipping. (Have serveral ZBasic community
users/members chip in for cost reduction)
Note: With this mini board service, no solder mask and silkscreen is provided!
Both are not needed for this very simple design project. (Please view assembly drawings)
PLEASE DO NOT MODIFY MY PCB DESIGN! - DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Also, view the assembly BMP and BOM - Bill of Materials (Parts list via Excel).
Adjust the parts quantity on the size of your needed system.
PLEASE DO NOT SUBSTITUTE ANY BOM PART! - DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I had trouble extracting files from this ZIP file.
