Another poster here brought up mention of SMD crystals. After doing a bit of searching, I've decided that even the smallest smd versions won't fit my board layout (yes, it's that tight).
I can fit the watch crystal style package though, like the ZX-24. Is this part commonly available? Perhaps someone can suggest a Digikey part number?

We haven't been able to find a suitably small SMD crystal, either. The crystal used on the ZX-24/a is a bit larger than the watch crystals that I've seen, though. The body is about 3mm in diameter, 8mm long. Digi-Key p/n XC957-ND is similar to the one that we use, the only difference being that ours is specified to remain in spec over the temperature range of -40 to +85 *C.
If you need the wider temperature range we could probably supply them. Contact me privately if you're interested. |

The Citizen CSA309 series will give the temp range of -20c to +70c.
