This thread seems to have already been neatly compiled into PDF form by Jack Ganssle.

After weighing the options, I'll stay away from interrupts and continue with the polling method, implementing the debouncing in software. I can use a relatively long debounce interval, as the button's function does not lend itself to rapid user interaction, and even 100 msec would not be noticed.
